Behind Full Recovery: The Real World Behind Jack Reyes

The research, legal realities and Florida setting behind Full Recovery — the first Jack Reyes legal thriller.

Real research. Behind the stories.

Some cases look complicated from the beginning. Others only become complicated when someone starts asking the wrong questions.

Full Recovery, the first Jack Reyes legal thriller, begins with the second kind.

On the surface, Jack is dealing with the aftermath of a construction-site accident in Southwest Florida. It is the kind of case a personal injury attorney sees every day: an injured worker, questions about responsibility, an insurance company and a claim that should eventually be resolved.

But straightforward cases have a habit of becoming something else when the facts stop fitting together.

CASE FILE JR-001

Location: Fort Myers, Florida
Attorney: Jack Reyes
Case: Construction-site injury
Status: Closed — until it wasn’t

Why a personal injury case?

I wanted Jack Reyes to enter his first story through something ordinary.

Not a murder investigation. Not a government conspiracy handed to him in chapter one. Just a lawyer doing his job.

That matters because Jack isn’t a detective. He’s a personal injury attorney. His access to information comes from claims, medical records, depositions, insurance files, witnesses and the small inconsistencies that appear when different versions of an event are placed next to each other.

In Full Recovery, that ordinary legal work becomes the doorway into something much larger.

The reality behind the fiction

Personal injury cases create an unusual paper trail.

A single accident can involve an employer, property owner, contractor, insurer, medical providers, witnesses, government agencies and attorneys. Each sees only part of what happened, and each creates records for a different reason.

Most of the time, those records simply document a claim.

But what happens when they don’t agree?

That question became one of the foundations of Full Recovery.

Jack doesn’t uncover the truth because somebody gives him a secret file. He finds it because details that should align don’t. A timeline feels wrong. A record raises another question. A settlement seems more urgent than it should be.

Individually, none of those things proves much.

Together, they give Jack a reason to keep looking.

Why Fort Myers?

Southwest Florida gives the Jack Reyes series exactly the contrast I wanted.

Fort Myers is bright, warm and outwardly relaxed. Palm trees, waterfront developments, highways stretching between rapidly growing communities and the Gulf Coast never far away.

It doesn’t immediately look like the setting for a dark legal thriller.

That’s precisely why it works.

Behind that surface is a region shaped by development, construction, money, local government, insurance and enormous economic interests. For Jack, those systems create both his everyday legal practice and the cases capable of pulling him far beyond it.

The Florida setting isn’t decoration. It’s part of the machinery of the story.

Building Jack Reyes

Jack needed to be competent without being invincible.

He knows how claims work. He understands insurers. He knows when someone is trying to move a case toward a convenient conclusion. But his real strength is simpler: once something stops making sense, he has difficulty leaving it alone.

That trait drives Full Recovery and becomes central to the series.

Jack isn’t searching for conspiracies.

He is searching for an explanation.

Sometimes the explanation is worse.

From one case to a series

Full Recovery established the world I wanted for Jack Reyes: legal cases that begin with recognizable disputes and gradually expose something underneath them.

The cases change. The industries change. The people responsible change.

But the central idea remains the same.

There is the version of events everyone is prepared to accept — and there is what actually happened.

Jack Reyes makes his living in the space between the two.

Full Recovery

A construction-site claim should have ended with a settlement. Two unreported deaths make that impossible.
